Megan’s connection to Marvel runs deep. “I've always been a Marvel fan, even before I realised the characters I loved were Marvel,” she said, recounting her childhood fascination with Spider-Man and X-Men: The Animated Series. These early favourites have evolved into a lifelong passion.
She continues to celebrate Marvel’s animated storytelling today, especially with her admiration for X-Men ‘97. “It’s become a comfort show,” she noted, explaining how its nostalgia and quality resonate with her.
This enthusiasm extends beyond just watching; Megan is a comic reviewer for Nerd Initiative, and she’s constantly exploring new series. “I’m really loving Steve Orlando’s run of Scarlet Witch and Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men right now,” she shared.
A Fresh Start for Vigilante Vibes
The road to Vigilante Vibes wasn’t without challenges. Megan initially launched the podcast with a co-host, but their visions for the show clashed. “I wanted to make a safe space… without the toxicity of racism, homophobia, or sexism,” she explained. However, her co-host leaned towards “flashier, more gossipy” content.
After parting ways, Megan took the reins. “I’ve never felt so free before to make content I feel proud of,” she said. Her renewed focus ensures every episode promotes meaningful discussions, whether about Marvel’s latest news or critical reviews of its content.
Guests play a pivotal role in this reboot. Megan seeks out diverse voices to enrich her show. “I want to connect with positive people,” she explained. “We all come from different walks of life, and I want to know yours.”
Tips for Aspiring Podcasters
When it comes to advice for those looking to start their own podcast, Megan keeps it simple: authenticity matters. “Make things because it’s something you would have wanted to hear,” she said. According to Megan, the key is not chasing followers or virality but creating something that feels right to you.
She also offered practical advice for beginners: “Start with a microphone and ask other podcasters about recording platforms. It does take time to get comfortable, and that’s okay.”
Peering into the future
As Vigilante Vibes grows, Megan is excited to expand her guest list, explore conventions, and continue building a safe and vibrant Marvel community. The podcast has already featured major names like Lenore Zann (X-Men: The Animated Series) and comic creators like Stephanie Phillips.
Reflecting on these experiences, she said, “It’s been so fun and freeing. I’ve learned a lot and gotten to know amazing people.”
