Rock and Roll Wrestling at Kemblawarra Portuguese Club November 6

After seeing lots of pictures and hearing plenty of hype about my local indy wrestling promotion I was finally able to secure a night of work and head along to check the show out. Thankfully I was not disappointed and this was one of the best promotions I have seen here in Australia.

Promoted as a night of “family” entertainment they provided five matches so that they finished at a reasonable time perfect for taking the kids along. While having just five matches on a show may seem a little short and disappointing but all of the matches were quiet lengthy and of a high quality so I was certainly left satisfied.

Match 1: Michael Spencer vs Jack Bonza

This match came about after Spencer came out to challenge Sean Kustom for his Elite Championship before fellow 4-Nations member Bonza came out to stand in Spencer’s way.

As usual Bonza dominated the early stages of this match with his hard-hitting, smash-mouth style. Then Spencer was able to take advantage of his speed and counter with some highflying offence.

Sadly my memory is totally failing me as to who won this match (if you know let me know on Twitter).

Match 2: Captain Keato vs Otis

The second match featured two up and coming young wrestlers. For two relatively new wrestlers on the scene they both do a great job of connecting with the crowd, which is probably the most important factor.

The match ended in a no-contest when Matt Rogers, accompanied by Andrew Waterhouse, ran in and destroyed both Keato and Otis.

Match 3: Robbie Eagles vs Matt Rogers

During the beatdown Robbie Eagles came out to make the save which lead to this match.

Matt Rogers who is an absolute giant used his size and power to dominate Eagles early on with clotheslines and clubbing blows. Eagles slowly made a comeback eventually hitting the 450-splash to pick up the victory.

Match 4: The Hive vs Jordan Black & JT Robinson (w. Andrew Waterhouse)

Following an intermission the show kicked back off with an action packed, fast paced tag-team match. For the majority of this match Black and Robinson used dirty tactics to maintain the advantage with The Hive only showing brief glimpses of hope.

Just as The Hive looked to be building some momentum Black and Robinson picked up the victory following a low-blow while the referee was distracted by Waterhouse.

Match 5: Sean Kustom vs Hunter Hayes – Champion vs Champion

The main event certainly justified it’s place on the card and was the best match of the night. At the outset Hayes took control and looked to end the match early calling for the DDT multiple time only to be countered by Kustom, which led to Kustom taking over the reigns.

Kustom then controlled much of the match with stiff kicks and even mocking Hayes by attempting a DDT of his own. Hayes was finally able to regain control and finish the match with his signature DDT and retain his championship.

Overall this was a very enjoyable evening and I hope to be able to head along to more shows in the future. If you are free tonight though they Rock and Roll Wrestling crew will be running the second show of their weekend double header at the Dapto Citizens Bowling Club.

As always I love to hear readers thoughts on Twitter @Appsy_JAM or Facebook on my page J.A.M.
